Duration: Instantaneous Casting Time: 1 round
Area of Effect: 1 Metal Object Save: None
Subtlety: +3 Knockdown: None

This spell identifies a metal by name. The caster must have firm physical contact with the metal in question. The caster can identify one metal in the object (randomly determined) per 3 caster levels (rounded down). Therefore, if an item is a blend of Dwarven Steel and Platinum, a caster would have to be a minimum of 6th level to identify the entire substance. The caster will know when he has identified every substance. The caster cannot identify ingredients of an alloy - thus, he will only identify Dwarven Steel, and not the fundamental metals of steel, gold, and white mithral. Note that the name of suspicious metals will most likely be the name given to the metal by the smith - so even if it's steel, if the smith believed it to be Gold, the spell would result in the name "Gold".

The material component, in addition to the metal (which is not consumed), is 50 GP worth of crushed gems, colored red, blue, and yellow (in any amounts). The crushed gems are thrown on the object in question during the casting and are thus consumed.
